Join artist Tina Stefanou in conversation with critical art collective Snack Syndicate (Astrid Lorange and Andrew Brooks), as they discuss Stefanou’s exhibition ‘Dance the War of Proximity’ at UNSW Galleries.
‘Dance the War of Proximity’ brings together experimental film, performance, sound, and sculptural installation to explore voice, movement, and acts of repair as relational and political forms. Together, Stefanou and Snack Syndicate reflect on how collective sensing and sounding might gesture towards alternate ways of relating across bodies, systems, and environments.
This program is part of ‘Artist to Artist’, an ongoing series of conversations at UNSW Galleries, bringing together practitioners with shared interests and material concerns.
Tina Stefanou is a Greek-Australian artist whose practice spans experimental film, performance, vocalisation, socially engaged research, and sculptural installation. She explores acts of singing as a political potential of aesthetics, using voice and its energetic and material capacities to engage questions of identity, belonging, instrumentality, and power. Stefanou positions performance as an intermedial terrain; an entanglement of place, body, and action, where speculative worlds can emerge within and beyond institutional spaces.
Snack Syndicate (Astrid Lorange and Andrew Brooks) is a critical art collective that produces installations, video and sound work, texts, and talks. Their book of essays Homework was published by Discipline in 2021.
