UNSW Galleries stands on an important place of learning and exchange first occupied by the Bidjigal and Gadigal peoples.
We recognise the Bidjigal and Gadigal peoples as the Traditional Custodians of this site and acknowledge them as the first
artists to inhabit this Land. We pay our respects to their Elders past and present, and extend this respect to Aboriginal and
Torres Strait Islander people from all nations of Australia.
Ivan Dougherty Gallery (1977–2009) was a contemporary art gallery that over three decades established a remarkable national and international reputation for the quality of its curatorial program. Located at UNSW’s Paddington campus from 1981, the Ivan Dougherty Gallery was a key player within the Australian contemporary art network and is forerunner to the current UNSW Galleries.
