Join us for a guest lecture by prominent art historian and curator Christina Barton, as she details her research and practice to date.
Barton is visiting from Te Whanganui-a-Tara/ Wellington as part of UNSW Galleries Visiting Curators Programme, designed to foster deeper engagement between practitioners and institutions in Aotearoa and Australia.
Christina Barton (DLitt, MNZM) is an art historian, writer, curator, editor, and educator based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara Wellington. From 2007–23 she led Te Pataka Toi Adam Art Gallery, the university gallery at Victoria University of Wellington, Aotearoa New Zealand. Previously, Barton was Curator of Contemporary New Zealand Art at Te Papa Tongarewa Museum of New Zealand and Assistant Curator, Collections at Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki. Barton has curated a wide range of exhibitions including 'Art Now: The First Biennial Review of Contemporary Art' (2014) and numerous solo surveys of under-represented artists.
