Ace Hotel Sydney hosts the opening of 'Remy Faint: Afterimage', an exhibition of new work developed through the Ace Hotel Artist in Residence program, presented in collaboration with UNSW Galleries.
Developed during a residency at Ace Hotel Sydney, 'Afterimage' brings together translucent paintings on silk and site-specific wall decals. Created using pigment, oil stick and bespoke timber supports, the works are soft, fluid and atmospheric, with colour and gesture suspended across the fabric's surface. Characteristic of Faint's practice, the installation expands the language of abstraction through layered materials, fragmented forms and cross-cultural references.
The exhibition's title refers to the visual impression that lingers after looking. Neither fixed nor stable, the afterimage shifts between perception and memory. Moving between material softness and optical intensity, Afterimage creates an immersive environment in which forms emerge, dissolve and reappear, transforming as visitors move through the space.
Following the residency, 'Remy Faint: A Site of Unfolding' will be presented at UNSW Galleries from 3 September to 22 November 2026.
