David Eastwood creatively re-imagines the London-based studio of late painter Francis Bacon, now on permanent display in Dublin City Gallery The Hugh Lane.
Through firsthand analysis and the reconstruction of selected elements from the site, Eastwood interprets the posthumous studio as an open source for contemporary art practice. The exhibition features a video installation constructed at 1:1 scale to match Bacon’s workspace, accompanied by a series of paintings.
The modernist studio — typically mythologised as the private domain of a solitary genius — is re-examined, opening the site to alternative views and prioritising the agency of the studio’s abundant materiality.
