A companion to the UNSW Galleries exhibition Friendship as a Way of Life 2020; an exhibition project which explores queer kinship and forms of being together. Featuring essays commissioned by Wilfred Brandt, Daniel Marshall, Timothy Roberts, Sophie Robinson, and Verónica Tello, alongside contributions from artists Frances Barrett, Camilo Godoy, Helen Grace, Dani Marti, Macon Reed, and Ella Sutherland.

Friendship as a Way of Life brings together more than 20 artists and collaborative groups centring around three ideas that offer perspectives on LGBTQI+ partnerships, collaboration, visibility, sex, intimacy and knowledge: ‘Public Relations’ the public expression of private lives and forms of communicating identities; ‘Living Arrangements’ the spaces and approaches to living/being with ‘chosen families’; and the ‘Intergenerational of Kinship’ of learning, sharing and support across generations.
