A visual story is a step-by-step guide designed to help prepare for your visit to UNSW Galleries. This visual and written guide will illustrate how to access the gallery building, what to expect upon arrival, and what you might experience in each exhibition space.

Before you Visit


Public Transport: UNSW Galleries is easily accessible by public transport, with bus stops on Oxford Street located just a minute’s walk away.

Driving: If you plan to drive, there are wheelchair-accessible parking spots in the university car park accessible via Greens Rd. Additionally, metered parking is available on Napier St and Greens Rd.

Entry: Admission to UNSW Galleries is free.

What’s On: You can check our current and upcoming exhibitions on the UNSW Galleries webpage.

Payment: UNSW Galleries is a cash-free venue. Please pay by card or use contactless payment through your phone or device.

Sensory Sensitivities: If you have sensory sensitivities, contact the gallery ahead of your visit for more information. You can also speak with the staff at reception, who can provide details about the content of each exhibition.

Galleries External Building
Entering UNSW Galleries

There are two entrances to UNSW Galleries.

The main entrance is located at the corner of Oxford Street and Greens Road. This entrance is best for visitors using a wheelchair, mobility aid, or pram.

This is the view of the gallery when approaching from Napier Street.

Oxford Entry
The Oxford Entrance:

As you approach from Oxford Street and Greens Road in Paddington, you’ll spot the UNSW Art & Design campus and Arthouse Kitchen café.

The gallery entrance is located next to the café, where you will find a set of automatic glass double doors. These doors will lead you into the gallery’s ground level.

The automatic doors open outward, so be sure to step back if they haven’t opened before you approach.

Oxford Entry

Once you enter the building, there is a gentle incline through a short corridor before reaching the Oxford Foyer on your left.

Stairs

As you enter the space, you’ll notice a large set of stairs leading to the upper level, where you’ll find the Courtyard Foyer.

This level is also accessible via elevator. Our staff at reception will be able to direct you to the elevator located inside the Oxford Gallery exhibition space.

Reception

Inside the Oxford Foyer, you will be greeted by a friendly staff member at the reception desk.

You can leave your bag and jacket here.

The staff will be happy to provide you with information about the exhibitions and programs.

Oxford Gallery

From here, continue into the galleries to reach the Oxford Galleries.

This is the largest exhibition space at UNSW Galleries, made up of four connected rooms. The Oxford Galleries are a changing exhibition space.

Lift/restroom
Elevator Access:

If you need elevators, they are available on every floor in the hallway behind the gallery. The gallery staff is always ready to assist if you need help with elevator access.

 

Bathroom Access:

An accessible bathroom is located in the same hallway.

Courtyard Entry
The Courtyard Entrance:

Alternatively, you can enter the galleries from the UNSW Art & Design campus.

When you enter through the Courtyard Entrance, you’ll find yourself in the Courtyard Foyer.

 

Waterlow Gallery

To your left, a large set of stairs leads down to the Oxford Foyer.

Just next to the stairs, you’ll find the Waterlow Gallery.

The Waterlow Gallery is a changing exhibition space and may be reconfigured in various ways. 

Courtyard Galleries

To your right you’ll find the Courtyard Gallery.

The Courtyard Gallery is a changing exhibition space with two rooms.

Exploring the Galleries:

As you explore UNSW Galleries, remember to admire the artwork from a distance. Please refrain from touching the pieces to ensure they remain in perfect condition for everyone to enjoy.
